January 2018
President's Report
Happy new year to you all. I hope you celebrated the start of 2018 in good spirits with family and friends. Now that we’re a few days into the new year, it’s good to look ahead and think about what this year may bring us. But first, a quick look back.
In 2017, National has created new programs to provide us additional value to our membership. Such as:
-
New student programs
-
Simplified billing system and new chapter management tool
-
Improved Member Benefits
-
Strategic Partnerships
National will continue to focus on that growth in 2018.
I will be scheduling an Executive board meeting this quarter to discuss goals for our own chapter’s growth this coming year in membership, community recognition, and in educational and charitable efforts.
Thank you, Chris McKenry, for hosting our own very lovely Christmas party this year at your beautiful home. Great food, drinks and the entertainment never disappoint!
Cheers!
Susan Larmoyeux, Chapter President

TORCH receives Stuffed Animals from ET-IDS
Thanks to all who brought stuffed animals to our ET-IDS Holiday Party which were donated to TORCH-Trinity Outreach Center for Hope, an Oak Ridge non-profit organization that that works to move families in Anderson County from homelessness into affordable housing. Their executive director, Andy O’Quinn, came to receive the stuffed animals, and spoke briefly about how they serve the community. He has given me copies of a children’s book that I will bring to Tuesday night’s meeting to share if you would like one. TORCH was delighted to receive about 25 stuffed animals of all types! (See the photo on the next page).
Ferguson Bath Kitchen and Lighting Gallery to Host Tuesday’s Meeting
You are invited to our first ET-IDS meeting of 2018!!
Delaney Warren, Architectural specifier for FSA Lighting, will educate us with a one-hour accredited HSW (Health, Safety, Welfare) CEU presentation on the “Fundamentals of Lighting”.
This course provides an overview of the fundamental principles of lighting and introduces today’s latest advancements in lighting technology. Topics covered include general lighting terminology, lamps and ballasts, solid-state lighting technology, light, vision, and color, electrical, and optical control.
Fergusons will open the buffet line at 5:30pm. Weather will be better with a predicted high of 43 degrees that night. So make plans now to attend!!
December 12th ET-IDS Holiday Party:
Chris McKenry played while we all sang his own rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” (Using storage and closet terms, of course!)
Some of our Holiday Party attendees gathered to present TORCH Executive Director, Andy Quinn, stuffed animals generously donated by our membership.
Chris McKenry provided a fabulous buffet, valet parking, and a tour of his home/showroom to demonstrate his professional organizing skills and let us see his products in use. Thanks Chris!!
New Billing Procedures for IDS National and Local Chapter memberships
1)Every member has a username and password that is given in the welcome letter when you joined National IDS. If you do not remember what your user name is please email our National Membership chair, Della Swider at [email protected]. Della can reset your user name and send it back to you.
2)Log into the National IDS website at www.interiordesignsociety.org. In the top right of the website site, enter your username and password. You will then be connected to your account. Look under the left side tabs and click on My Invoices tab.
3) Your most recent invoice for 2018 dues will appear. It should show both your national dues level, whether Professional, Associate, Industry Partner, Furniture Sales person, or Student. There should be a second entry showing your chapter dues also. The total shown should reflect BOTH amounts. You can choose to pay by credit card or check. Checks can be mailed to the National IDS office address shown on the invoice.
4) After receiving your payment, National will send a check back to our chapter for local dues collected each month.
5) We hope everyone will find this billing less confusing and easier to keep for your records.
IT IS EACH MEMBER’S RESPONSBILITY TO LOOK UP AND PAY YOUR INVOICE FOR 2018. Our Chapter President and Membership chair get notifications each month about who has paid to keep their membership current.
